This site was designed and is maintained by myself (David Geschke). I am the bassist with Waupun, WI singer/songwriter BUZZ MEADE.
I started this site in March of 1998 at a time when I had put together a solo bass show (Dave On Bass). My original idea was to book some shows during the week to supplement my weekend income that came from gigging with my band Road Trip. So I put together a 3 hour show of solo music playing popular cover tunes that I arranged for bass. I had posters and business cards made and I booked eight shows for May 1998. And I started this web site with help from a friend who knew HTML to coincide with my new endeavor.
The eight shows I did in May of 1998 were the only Dave On Bass shows I ever played! I got married in July 1998 and the band started to get busier that summer as well, between the band and wedding plans I didn't have time to book any shows! So I forgot almost all the stuff I had put together for the solo shows and never got back into it. But the web site started to get hits from all over! I added more bass related info and less info on the non-existent solo shows.
Later in 1998 I started working for BASS FRONTIERS magazine. I wrote their internet column for a while (Sightings), did some product reviews and was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to interview one of my favorite bassists of all time TOMMY SHANNON - that interview appears in the July/August 1999 issue (vol 6, no 4 - Gene Simmons on the cover). You can also view the interview in it's entirety on my site here: www.daveonbass.com/nl4.htm
I stopped working with Bass Frontiers after that interview and began an association with BASSICS magazine. My first assignment was to interview another GREAT bassist: BENNY RIETVELD. Santana's CD was #1 at the time and that interview became the cover story of the March/April 2000 issue of Bassics magazine! The interview with Benny can be found here: www.daveonbass.com/interviews/benny.htm
In July of 2000 my mother became very ill after getting the e-coli virus from a Milwaukee "Sizzler" restaurant. She was 85 years old at the time and almost died - she spent three months in the hospital before being placed in a nursing home where she will probably spend the rest of her life. She was very healthy and living on her own before the illness. ROAD TRIP was VERY busy in 2000 and I was also spending a LOT of time with my mother at the various hospitals she was in. It didn't leave much time for magazine interviews or site updates, but I did manage to keep the Dave On Bass site fairly current during that time.
Which brings us to 2001. I redid the site and pretty much eliminated what was left of the original Dave On Bass solo show pages (for those of you interested in what songs I did you can still find the songlist here: www.daveonbass.com/playlist.htm). My wife and I moved from South Milwaukee to Waupun, WI, Road Trip played more shows than ever, and I went and got my Real Estate license. Another busy year!
From 2002-2005 I played with ROAD TRIP and worked for US Cellular (Beaver Dam) and Hearthstone GMAC Realty (Waupun). I left ROAD TRIP after 2005 and started playing with BUZZ MEADE.
2006 found me busy playing with BUZZ and starting yet a new "day job" with Edward Jones Investments.
In 2007 I opened my Edward Jones office in Beaver Dam, WI and continued playing with BUZZ MEADE until he decided to take 2008 off. So currently I am freelancing and looking to start either my punk/bubblegum band CHEW ON THIS! back up or the next great jazz/fusion project.
I try to keep the site as updated as possible and include all relevent links that I can find. Feel free to e-mail comments & suggestions to me below. Thanks for taking the time to stop by!
